What Are The Signs of Infertility?

By Emmanuel Palmer

For most couples, they want to start a family as soon as possible. Sometimes though, people experience problems getting pregnant that bewilder and sadden them. Before you spend all your time worrying about this, you should look at some details that influence the outcome of your quest to have a baby of your own.

Are you keeping an eye on your ovulation schedule? Sometimes, it is only a matter of having intercourse at the most fertile days of the month. There are several instruments like the fertility calculator that can aid you in getting pregnant. If you are still unable to conceive after several months of unprotected sex during your most fertile period, then you may have fertility concerns that need to be addressed.

What are some signs of infertility? As we know, infertility is the inability to successfully conceive children. Sometimes the reasons have to do with adjusting one's lifestyle-- like keeping away from caffeine, alcohol and nicotine. Many times, the reason may be medical in nature. One of the most common symptoms you should watch out for is amenorrhea.

Amenorrhea is when the woman is not having her menstrual cycle. If you do not have your period and you are past the stage of puberty, are not currently pregnant, or in already in menopause-you need to visit your doctor as soon as you are able. Be informed though that if you have been on birth control pills, it will take a few cycles before your regular monthly flow resumes its normal pattern.

Amenorrhea is caused by several factors. Sometimes hormones needed for ovulation are not produced, or there is a breakdown in the regular functions of the body's reproductive system. Other times, the pituitary gland (the gland that controls growth and sex hormones) and the nervous system act up, thus contributing to the failure of conception.

Weight issues for men and women are also possible signs of infertility. Obesity can be a result of a hormonal imbalance that makes conception a near impossibility for some. Being too thin, or having too little body fat will force the body to conserve energy through stopping of the menstrual cycle, or even produce the adequate quantity and quality of sperm.

Men sometimes also have physical and anatomical deformities that are symptoms of infertility. Undescended testicles prevent the creation of viable sperm needed for successful conception. Men should avoid wearing overly tight pants and having their scrotum exposed to extreme heat. Infertility symptoms for men are not as obvious and may need sperm analysis for verification. However a good indication is the manifestation of a sexual dysfunction that you must ask your doctor about.

If you and your partner have problems getting pregnant and want to undergo treatment or medication, it is highly advisable that you seek your doctor's recommendation first.Infertility may be irreversible for some people, but there are always other alternatives that can help you attain your lifelong dream of a happy family. Take a complete medical examination and consult with your doctor regarding these options.
