What Is The Main Use For The Audiometer

By Roxanne Cruz

There are several things that you may take advantage of so that you may be able to do the activities that you must do. The audiometer is one perfect example of such thing. For people who are not aware, this piece of device have a big role in the procedure that is best known by people as audiometry.

The latter is the process that is being done in order to test if an individual has an audible range when it comes to speech and tones. This is usually being performed by some experts in hospitals. There is no need to worry if you will be undergoing this kind of test since it can be relatively painless.

It would also be best for you to know that this can only be conducted on people who have suspicions of losing their hearing ability. The expert that will be performing this method is called an audiologist. The latter has been trained accordingly in order to ensure that the patients or clients will always be safe all throughout the process.

The expert will also see to it that he will be using the electric devices mentioned awhile ago that are called audiometers. The test will begin by asking the patient to wear some headphones while he sits on a booth that is soundproof. The expert will just sit down outside the same booth while he operates the equipment.

The patients and their ears are also tested separately. While the test is ongoing, a button is prepared so that patients will simply push it easily to tell if they have heard of the sounds. The tones along with the levels of all the sounds are controlled by experts every once in a while for further checking that has to be performed.

Meanwhile, there is also nothing wrong in not using headphones. You can also make use of another thing in the form of the headband. This item is going to be placed unto the ears of a patient. Some vibrations will be sent unto the inner ears through its bones. The audiologists will also see to it that the volume is well controlled.

The tests that were mentioned may end after thirty minutes and they are a part of the category of tone testing. Meanwhile, there can also be another kind of test to know if someone can still clearly hear word sounds. Experts will also stay in a similar booth, but the approach will not be the same anymore.

The expert is going to recite some words as well as phrases with different levels in decibels. He will then ask the patient to say the words that he recited to know if the latter was able to hear it successfully. This kind of testing method would typically last for about ten minutes if there are no glitches.

The results of the audiometry tests with an audiometer will soon be recorded on a certain graph. The latter is known popularly as an audiogram. The records that will serve as proof can be separate for each of the ear of the individual who has been tested.
