What Would Happen During Alcohol Rehab Houston

By Annabelle Holman

Drinking problems are extremely hard to cure simply because drinking problems would include both physical and psychological issues wherein one would have to deal with both in order to be healed. Now if one would attend an alcohol rehab houston program, then he would be detoxifying both his mind and his body and the same time. If one believes that he has a drinking problem, then he might want to go and try out this type of program.

Now probably the hardest part of the program would be the first few weeks because this is the time wherein one would be cleansing his body. During the process, he will probably suffer some withdrawal symptoms because his body is not used to not having alcohol. Now the length of time in which the detoxification would last will depend on how heavy of a drinker the patient is.

Now do take note that while one is in the detoxification process, he will be experience a lot of discomfort and some symptoms of withdrawal. This will happen because the body is trying to adjust to not having alcohol enter it. If one is not such a heavy drinker but still a regular drinker, he will be experiencing mild symptoms like anxiety, shaking, and nausea.

Of course the symptoms that one would have would depend on just how heavy of a drinker one is. Now if one is a really heavy drinker, then he may even get mild seizures, hallucinations, and even blood pressure issues. Of course there are medicines like sedatives that may curb down these symptoms while one is going through cleansing.

Now after one has finished his few weeks of detoxification, then he may now move on to the next step of rehab which would be mental healing. Now even if the body has been cleared from the substance, it does not mean that the mind has. It is for this reason that the therapists will now come into the picture.

Now the therapist will first have to get the patient to accept that he has a drinking problem so that he will be on the road to curing his mind. Surprisingly during this stage, many patients are still in a state of denial when it comes to having a problem. The therapists will have constant sessions with their patients so that they can help their patients tune their minds properly.

There are going to be times when the patient is depressed or have some negative thoughts about himself. Now the medical doctors would step into the picture and offer some antidepressants. The reason why antidepressants would have to be used would be because negative thoughts may hamper the healing process.

Of course if the patient is already doing better, then the therapist will now get him to participate in healthier activities like sports or art. He may ask the patient to take up things like yoga or jogging which could improve health. Of course the therapist will be staying by his side at all times until he has already gotten his life back and is ready to move on.
